February 23, 2011 [Wednesday]

a special day…

This is so true. Looking back to a session I did this summer for an old friend I can barely remember how hot it was, what we talked about, or even what time of the day we were shooting– but the one thing I do remember is how much love I felt around this family.

This is my friend Krystal with her sweet dad, Neil. Krystal contacted me about doing a family session with her dad and boyfriend. She said she wanted to document life as it was to them right then and there. See her father is battling cancer. When I asked what was most important to her for us to capture in our session she had these words for me…

“Dad’s cancer has taken over our lives. We never know from month to month where it is going to leave a new cell. I have found that not only the person with this horrible disease, but also the whole family has to fight Cancer with everything they have. We know it will eventually take my dad, so documenting our time together became more and more important. I wanted wonderful treasures of my family, at its best, as we are ALL fighting this disease.”

And so we laughed and we shot and we documented this speical time between them all.

Now this is our sweet Billy. Billy and Krystal are a tireless team devoted to helping Mr. Neil with his battle with cancer. They are an amazing couple who is actually getting married today! Billy and Krystal will have a wedding in April but wanted to have a ceremony today with Mr. Neil involved. Today is a special day for many of us who love and admire Krystal and Billy but this day is a special wish granted just for our Mr. Neil.

Krystal I know you are a beautiful bride today. Know that I am with you guys today in heart, mind, and spirit. Soak up all the love that is around you and your sweet family.

Thank you Krystal, Billy, and Mr. Neil for all the love you share with us all.  Our session will be one that I will treasure for always!

Wow! Krystal looks so like her Mom! I did not recongize Neil. I knew him in High School. I just heard from your Mom that Neil passed away. Seeing these pictures really blessed me and I hope an opportunity to send my condolences to Krystal and Sue and family. I admired the relationship Neil had with Sue and his wife and Krystal. Billy did a beautiful thing marrying Krystal and sharing this special occasion with Neil. I know Neil felt blessed and loved. J-9
