Arts in Action!

Event: Arts in Action

Location: Frank Porter Graham Elementary Chapel Hill, NC

website: http://www.ncartsinaction.org/

March 4th was a big day for me. It was my first ABP session since my sweet Lila Byrd was born. I was excited, nervous (about leaving my little byrd), and honestly not sure how it would feel to be “back”. Well if you guys know me you know that I think God always knows exactly what he is doing and he planned for my first session back to be with my Arts in Action family. I realized I have been photographing this awesome non profit for four years now. (Thanks Lisa Kang and Lisa Van Deman!). This non profit brings happiness, dance, and the excitement of learning new things to our schools and our kids. As I said it was the perfect session back…

a little byrd of our very own

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in a while you could miss it.”
― Matthew Broderick as Ferris Buller, “Ferris Buller’s Day Off”

Who doesn’t love Ferris Buller and his wisdom? I have to admit I have followed this quote quite well lately. Where have I been, having the time of my life with a little byrd of my very own. Lillian Colette Byrd, Lila, was born about a week early on December 29th. She decided she wanted to be here to ring in the New Year with us! Since the 29th I have been working hard and learning each day the most important role I have ever had, being a mother. In my work as a photographer I closely work and watch mothers and their children and have always been so amazed at the relationship between the two. Even being a part of so many families lives and special moments-nothing truly prepared me for this adventure of being someone else’s mom. So friends this is the view from my ABP office lately…Lila in her sling as I try to get work done.

Hunter Privette

Friday, November 6th, 2009
One of the things I love most about my job is watching my kids and families grow! It is amazing to me how much we all change in such short periods of time-especially the kids! I first had the pleasure of shooting Hunter last year. Check out some images from our 2008 session!

Kelly and Ian

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Today I am allowing myself to do something I love-back blogging. I have so many wonderful sessions that I have not blogged about yet! So this morning I said I would take a second to blog about two really special people and the beautiful morning we got to spend together.

Meet Kelly and Ian!

Kelly and Ian have the kind of love that makes you go wow! Ian lived in England and Kelly lived here in Raleigh. A little long distance could not keep them apart! Kelly asked Amber Byrd Photography to capture some images early one Friday morning before they were on their way downtown to be married!!!

The colors, the sun, their excitement… it all came together in a way that was just perfect. Click on the thumbnails to make the images full size!

Kelly and Ian are now living in England as adorable newlyweds! Thanks for inviting me to be apart of such a very special morning for you both. We all miss you here in NC and hope the sun and love always shines on you no matter where you are– like it did that special morning you became husband and wife!

Max Batchelor-A Three Month Session

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

As I traveled to Summerfield to meet my new friend Max for his three month session I kept thinking back to how long I have truly known his mom Sallie. Sallie and I went to pre-school together and played and dreamed about one day being real mommies, and now here it is 2009 and I am getting the chance to photograph and document this special time in her life. How quickly time passes and how vivid such long ago memories can be is really amazing…

So you can imagine how excited I was to meet this special little man!

I am so proud to say that this gorgeous girl is my youngest cousin, Grayson Massey. She came up to Chapel Hill for me to photograph her Senior Pictures. Despite how hot it was (think back to how hot August was) she was such a trooper and let me play all over campus with her. She didn’t mind me asking her to lay in old spidery trees, walking down the middle of a busy street during one of Chapel Hill’s puppet shows, she just kept smiling! Here are some of my favorites…

Senior Portraits were so much fun. Let me know if anyone out there is interested in an ABP Senior Session.
